Plug stuck? Lets get you moving.

It happens to the best of us: you've finished your JOLT session, but your car refuses to let go of the charging cable.

First rule: don't force it. Your vehicle automatically locks the cable in place during a session to keep things secure. Pulling hard while that mechanical lock is engaged can damage your car’s charging port.

Try these quick fixes to get the plug released safely.

1. Confirm the session is fully shut down

Your car won't release the plug if it thinks power is still flowing.

  • Check the JOLT app to make sure your session shows as "Completed."

  • Check your car's dashboard or touchscreen to confirm it knows charging has ended.

If your session is still active, please end your charge by trying the following:

  1. Stop the charge via your JOLT app

  2. Ending the charge from your vehicle dashboard or touchscreen

  3. Pushing the physical silver 'Push to Stop' button on the charging station (generally located near the charging station plug holders).

  4. If you have tried all of the above and still cannot stop your charge, please contact our emergency support line - This number can be found in the JOLT app under 'Contact Support'.

2. Trigger the car's built-in overrides

Once you have confirmed the session has stopped, you can usually trick the car into releasing the cable by trying the following:

  1. Key Fob: Press the Unlock button on your car key fob 3-5 times in rapid succession. For many EVs, this acts as a direct command to unlock the charging port.

  2. Vehicles Touch Screen: Check the charging menu on your main touchscreen for a manual "Unlock Port" button.

3. Pull the mechanical emergency release

If the electronics are still unresponsive and the cable is still stuck, please search for where you can find the vehicles manual release cable. Most EVs will have a manual release function within the car - sometimes the location of your manual release can differ from model to model so we recommend searching up where you can find your vehicles specific manual cable release.

We will remote reset the station to ensure our side of the lock is completely open. (Please note: If the station releases but your car keeps gripping the plug, the lock error is on the vehicle's side, and you may need to contact your vehicle dealership for their assistance.)
