If you've checked your bank account after charging with JOLT and seen something that looks higher than you expected, here's what's most likely happening.
Pre-authorization or temporary hold (not a charge)
When you start a charging session, your bank places a small temporary hold on your card. This is not a charge. It's a standard payment industry practice used to confirm your card is valid — similar to filling up at a fuel pump or checking into a hotel.
- Once your session ends, the hold is released by your bank — usually within a few business days — and you're only billed for the energy you used.
- You will only ever be billed once. The final charge replaces the hold, it does not add to it.
If the hold is still on your card after 7 business days, check in with your bank first — they control when holds are released, not JOLT
Idle fees
To ensure chargers are available for everyone, an Idle Fee applies if your car remains connected after it has finished charging. See app for details.
When does it start? The fee begins accruing 10 mins after your charging session ends (e.g. your battery reaches 100% or the session is stopped).
How to avoid it: Please enable Push Notifications in the JOLT app. We will send you an alert when your charge is complete so you can move your vehicle immediately.
